About Us

1st St. John’s Scout Group is an active Scout Group in Surrey, with a Beaver Colony, Cub Pack and Scout Troop.

All sections offer a wide range of activities on a weekly basis together with regular hikes, camps and participation in District, County and International events.

The Group also organise the annual St. John’s Summer Fete attracting visitors from all over Woking bringing the entire community together.

The Scout Association offers fun and everyday adventure to almost half a million young people between the ages of 6 and 25 across the United Kingdom. Our main goal is to help young people achieve their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens and as Members of their local, national and international communities.

About our work

Scouting aims to develop young people and make a positive contribution to society. Our young people come together each week to:

  • Master new skills and try new things
  • Have fun and go on adventures
  • Make friends
  • Are curious about the world around them
  • Help others and make a difference, in their own communities and beyond

Every week, our young people gather in our groups to take part in lots of interesting and challenging activities – achieving anything they set their minds to, and having lots of fun along the way

Responsibly

Our method for giving young people the opportunity to learn by doing is called the Programme. The Programme is a continuous progression of training, activities and awards that covers everything that young people do in Scouting with us from the age of 6 to 13 and beyond.

Commitment to Safety

In Scouting, our adults have a responsibility to make sure that the Programme is fun and exciting. We must also make sure that it is safe. The Scout Association’s policies, rules, code of behaviour, advice on Child Protection and safety policy are there to ensure our young people stay safe while they enjoy themselves and learn.

Who can be a Scout?

Everyone’s welcome here. All genders, races and backgrounds. Regardless of your child’s physical ability – there’s a Scout adventure out there waiting for them. And we’ll help them find it.
Scouting is open to all young people aged 6 to 25 of every faith and background. There are also plenty of opportunities for adults to become involved as Leaders, Assistants or Administrators.
